Syrian FM to head gov't delegation to Geneva talks – Russian official

MOSCOW, Jan 27 (KUNA) — Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem will head a government delegation to the Geneva talks, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Wednesday.
In a statement to Interfax news agency, Gatilov added that an invitation from the UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura was sent to Al-Muallem as head of the delegation to the talks, which are due to begin in Geneva on January 29.
Gatilov said that Riyad Hijab will head the Syrian opposition delegation, which was formed in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh, noting that an invitation also was sent to 10 moderate opposition figures.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed during a news conference on Tuesday that Kurds will take part in the talks later. (end)
