Suicide blast wounds 5 people in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (KUNA) — At least five people including security personnel were injured in a suicide blast at the gate of a military cantonment compound in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province on Friday, said an official.
A senior police official, Zahid Afzal told media that the attacker detonated a car bomb on a gate of the compound after being asked to halt in Zhob district of Balochistan.
He confirmed that a child, a civilian and three security force members were wounded in the attack where the condition of two injured was critical.
The attacker failed to enter the army’s facility, which houses offices and residential buildings for officers, the official added.
The intensity of the blast shattered windowpanes in nearby buildings and spread fear and panic among residents. Security forces cordoned off the area and a search operation went underway, the official added.
Resource-rich Balochistan has been facing militants’ insurgency for over a decade and militants have repeatedly targeted security forces and government installations. (end)
