The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) confirmed that the State of Qatar is pursuing an ambitious policy to promote local products. Any observer of the agricultural development process in the State of Qatar will notice the structural changes in the agricultural sector, which came in line with the strategic objectives of development plans.

Mr. Youssef Khaled Al Khulaifi, Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at MME explained, in a speech on the occasion of the celebration of the Arab Agriculture Day, which falls on September 27 every year, and is held this year under the slogan “Towards resilient agriculture and food systems responsive to changes”, that the agricultural sector plans are working to bring a real change in the (agricultural) economic structure, by diversifying the production base through  increasing local agricultural production with a focus on the optimal use and preservation of natural resources and improving economic and marketing efficiency.

Al Khulaifi, pointed out that the Ministry followed an ambitious policy to advance local production and set goals by supporting farmers and investors in the agricultural sector by providing agricultural advice and guidance, granting loans and support for agricultural and productive inputs of seeds and pesticides, and providing farms destined for organic agriculture with their requirements.
