South Korea Considers Altering Description of Water Discharged From Fukushima Nuclear Plant

South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said on Wednesday that his government will consider changing the term used in describing the water released from the disabled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the Pacific Ocean.

During a hearing before the parliament, Duck-soo confirmed that what is being discharged is not contaminated water, but rather contaminated water that was treated in accordance with the scientific standards.

He added that it would be very accurate from a scientific vantage point to describe this wastewater as contaminated water that has been subjected to a treatment through ALPS filtration system approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

South Korea uses the term contaminated water in its daily briefings on discharging water from Fukushima plant which started last Thursday at a time Japan described it as treated water.
