‘Shipping firms must ensure parcels do not contain prohibited items’

Shipping companies must be fully aware of the contents of shipments and parcels before receiving and transporting them, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has underlined.

The authority has added that the shipping companies must ensure that shipments do not contain any prohibited materials, and that they bear legal responsibility for the contents of the shipments and parcels which they transport.

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on some posts circulated on social media outlets about the closure of one of the shipping companies for 15 days, the Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at the CAA, Talal Abdullah al-Malki, said that the company had imported parcels without ensuring that they did not contain prohibited materials.

The authorities concerned monitored and seized two shipments that the company had accepted and imported without fulfilling the conditions and taking the measures stipulated in the law.

Accordingly, the Civil Aviation Authority decided to close the company and alert it on the necessity to amend the procedures for acceptance of shipments coming into Qatar, and to submit to the authority the actions taken in this regard expeditiously.

The Civil Aviation Authority called on all companies working in the field of shipping to check the contents of parcels, shipments and consignments, as stipulated by the law governing the import and export process, before receiving them.

The CAA stressed that it will not hesitate to take legal procedures and exercise full powers against any violation detrimental to the security of the homeland, and that, in co-operation with all parties concerned in the State, it will take all measures that prevent the entry of prohibited materials that harm the security and safety of the homeland and its citizens.
