Sharjah named “Capital of Arab Press” for 2016 – UAMC

SHARJAH, March 20 (KUNA) — The city of Sharjah was named the Capital of the Arab Press for the year 2016, the Jordan-based media body, United Arab Media Council (UAMC) announced on Sunday.
Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi received the baton of the declaration from secretary-general of UAMC Haitham Yousuf, during the opening of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF).
According to UAMC, Sharjah was selected based on a number of criteria including the emirateآ’s vibrant media environment, the recent establishment of the Sharjah Media City (SMC) free zone, the promotion of cultural and intellectual content, and the support of Al Qasimi for many of the media initiatives and creative projects in the emirate.
