Saudi woman among Group of Experts for UN

NEW YORK, Jan 30 (KUNA) — Saudi woman among a group of experts appointed by UN Chief to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism launched at the UN Sustainable Development Summit.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment of the 10-Member Group that is consisted of representatives of civil society, the private sector and the scientific community that will advise the UN Interagency Task Team.
Among the appointed, Saudi Founder and President of the Institute for Imagination and Ingenuity, Hayat Sindi.
The Technology Facilitation Mechanism is meant to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Mechanism comprises a United Nations interagency task team on science, technology and innovation, which currently gathers 25 United Nations entities, an annual multistakeholder forum on science, technology and innovation, and an online platform that serves as a gateway for information on existing science, technology and innovation initiatives, mechanisms and programs. Sindi, a Clinton Global Citizen Awardee, is the founder and President of an institution which focuses on fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
She is also co-founder and director of ‘Diagnostics for All’, a nonprofit institution fusing biotechnology and microfluidics, dedicated to creating low-cost, easy-to-use, point-of-care diagnostics designed specifically for the 60 percent of the developing world that lives beyond the reach of urban hospitals and medical infrastructures.
