Russia to continue developing strategic weapons – Putin

MOSCOW, June 17 (KUNA) — Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday his country has made significant successes in developing its arsenal of strategic weapons.
The Russian military capabilities target no specific countries; they are rather meant to maintain a global arms balance, he said in an address at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Putin noted that his country could be forced to respond to the deployments of the US missile defense systems which pose a direct threat to Russia.
He added that Russia has to protect its national security and maintain a strategic balance although it is accused of adopting an aggressive policy. (end) as.gb
