Qatar University (QU) will be taking strict safety and precautionary measures to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 for its upcoming graduation ceremonies. The University announced in a statement that it will implement a number of procedures as it prepares to host the Class of 2020 graduation in QU Sport and Events Complex.
QU will host a number of ceremonies, the first of which towards the end of May, different from previous ceremonial traditions in order to ensure the safety of all during the current pandemic.
In line with the State of Qatar’s policy, QU represented by the Facilities and General Services Department – Health, Safety and Environment Office, in cooperation with QU other relevant departments and the Ministry of Public Health, will apply a number of precautionary measures. These measures include but are not limited to: the requirement that all attendees test for Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) one day prior to the event (a number of facilities in QU will be open to administer the test), maintain physical distance of a minimum of 9 square meters for each person, no food or drink will be served at the event with the exception of rapped dates and sealed water bottles.
The procedure for the annual group photo will also change. Following the Qatar National Anthem, the annual group photo will be taken while graduates stand at their seats. In addition, after the end of the main two ceremonies, the graduates will be required to exit the hall immediately in order to avoid socialization with each other. For the rest of ceremonies, the graduates will be discharged as soon as they receive the graduation gift.
QU is calling upon its graduates and attendees to adhere to the safety and precautionary measures that have been put in place. In addition, the University published on its website a list of instructions to follow during the day of the ceremony. These instructions include: Displaying a green Ehteraz, having a negative result of RAT on the system, temperature check before entering the hall, wearing a mask, sanitizing hands, prohibiting touch greetings, avoiding gatherings, prohibiting exchange of personal belongings, complying with the guidance of the organizers, avoiding crowding near entrances or exits (before and after the ceremony), avoiding mingling with Covid-19 positive individuals before the ceremony. The graduate should not attend the ceremony, if he/she feels any influenza symptoms, cough or high temperature, as they must be considerate of the safety of others.
