QCRI’s summer internship program kicks off

The Qatar Computing Research Institute’s 2017 summer internship program is underway.

This year’s program involves computer science and computer engineering students from Carnegie Mellon University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the College of the North Atlantic Qatar, Texas A and M University at Qatar, and Qatar University.

Interns at QCRI, part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, are given the opportunity to work with specialists on research and development projects in Arabic language technologies, data analytics, social computing and distributed systems.

Dr. Eman Fituri, QCRI’s Director of Educational Initiatives, said this year’s program was mostly focusing on team research projects, with 16 team projects and four individual ones.

We want to instill a sense of teamwork in the students as they gain hands-on experience working on QCRI’s advanced projects, Dr Fituri said.

Some of QCRI’s previous interns have gone on to co-author major research papers and win awards.

The program runs until June 22.
