DOHA, Qatar, Mar 23 – Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to work together on conservation and energy efficiency, as part of the school curriculum.

The MoU on National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) was signed by Abdul Aziz Ahmad Al Hamadi, manager of Kahramaa’s conservation and energy efficiency department, and Khalifa Al Dirham, director of the office of independent schools, at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Al Hamadi said, Tarsheed’s mission is to promote the culture of conservation, and ensure the rational consumptions of electricity and water in Qatar, in order to create an ideal environment and achieve successful social partnerships.

“The efforts of all sectors are required to achieve the programme’s objectives, especially, the key role played by the education sector for influencing the behaviour of the younger generation at an early stage of life, will

certainly add value to the programme,” he added.

Fawziya Al Khater, director of the Education Institute at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said that, the partnership will help in promoting the culture of conservation.

The MoU covers six major areas pertaining to the conservation and energy efficiency for school curriculum, including student activities, raising the capacities of educational cadres, raising the awareness of school students

and organising competitions that encourage conservation and taking care of educational buildings.

Cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and Kahramaa for the Tarsheed programme, was launched in 2012
