Qatar’s Beach Soccer Team Participates in Asian Cup

Kuala Lumpur, March 03 (QNA) – Qatar’s beach soccer national team kick off their participation in the AFC Beach Soccer Championship, which starts Saturday in Malaysia with the participation of 12 teams.

The Maroon take on Japan in their opening game of the tournament on Monday, before facing UAE on Tuesday and concluding the group stage against Iraq on Wednesday.

The tournament lasts until March 11 and qualifies for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas in April.

The team left Doha for the Thai capital of Bangkok on Feb. 18 to start a training camp that ended today as part of preparations for the Asian championship.

During the camp, Qatar played two friendlies against Thailand and a Brazilian team of professional players, while a third match was canceled in order to avoid fatigue.

Group A drew Iran alongside Bahrain, China, Malaysia and Afghanistan, while Group B has holders Oman along with Lebanon, Uzbekistan and Thailand. Uzbekistan have withdrawn however, leaving Group A with three sides. (QNA)
