QATAR WELCOMES U.N.’S LIFTING OF ARAB COALITION FROM LIST OF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS VIOLATORS

DOHA, – Qatar welcomed the United Nations (UN) Secretariat’s decision to lift the Arab pro-legitimacy coalition in Yemen, from the list of violators of children’s rights during conflicts and wars.

A Foreign Ministry source said that, the decision was made after the UN Secretariat concluded that, the information the report was based on were inaccurate and not objective.

The source reiterated that, member states of the Arab pro-legitimacy in Yemen, led by Saudi Arabia were fully committed to the international law and international humanitarian law, stressing that the coalition’s main task was
to protect civilians, including children, the restoration of legitimacy, and providing humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people.

The source also pointed to the Arab coalition’s efforts, in supporting the ongoing peace talks, in order to reach a political settlement, in line with the Gulf initiative, the output of the national dialogue, and Security Council
Resolution 2216.

The Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, among others reaffirmed the need for all parties to ensure the safety of civilians, and called upon all Yemeni parties to abide by the Gulf Cooperation Council and other initiatives, as well as, to resume the United Nations-brokered political transition.
