Geneva, Media & Communication Dept., The State if Qatar underlined the value and role of the family in every society, pointing that Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that “the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State”.

This came in the State of Qatar statement, delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, at a side event entitled “The Role of the Family in Upbringing the Next Generation… Family, Religion and Society” at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva.

Her Excellency highlighted the importance of holding the event at a time when the family institution is under unprecedented tremendous attacks and attempts to diminish and weaken its role in society, pointing that this trend is in fact fueled by some anti-family ideologies that oppose the important role of the family in society.

She also considered the family as one of the most important components of basic socialization, and that it has been for centuries a very important means of communication with other social institutions, such as the state and public opinion, as well as religious and educational institutions.

The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva drew attention to many research studies which showed that healthy families have been considered a system with a stable structure, where family members create their own holistic and sub-cultures.
