Qatar to buy USD 3.8 bln.-worth warships from Italy

ROME, June 16 (KUNA) — Qatari Minister of State for Defense Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah and Italy’s Italian Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti signed a Letter of Intent to enhance the defense cooperation between their two countries at the headquarters of the Italian Ministry of Defense here on Thursday.
Maj. General Mohammed Nasser Al Mohannadi, commander of the Qatari Amiri Naval Force, also signed two agreements with Fincantieri company to build seven naval vessels, and an agreement with MBDA company, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
The costs of the seven warships, to be built in Italy, and their 15-year maintenance amount to USD 3.8 billion. Qatar’s Ambassador to Italy Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani attended the signing ceremony along with project officers from the Qatari Amiri Naval Force. (end) mn.tb.gb
