Qatar Stresses Importance of Continuing Cooperation and Dialogue with Caretaker Government of Afghanistan

The State of Qatar stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and dialogue with the caretaker government of Afghanistan.

This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah, before the 51st session of the Human Rights Council, during the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan.

Her Excellency expressed concern about the Special Rapporteur’s report that nearly 18.9 million people are suffering from food insecurity, and its impact on vulnerable groups in society, especially women and children, in addition to challenges related to access to health care services, and the continuing restrictions imposed on the banking and financial sector.

She pointed out that the State of Qatar has made strenuous efforts in the Afghan file and received great praise from the international community, stressing that the most prominent of these efforts is reaching the Doha Peace Agreement in Afghanistan, evacuating more than 75 thousand Afghan refugees in addition to thousands of citizens of other countries, contributing to the reopening of Kabul Airport, providing more than $75 million during the Afghanistan pledging conference and the Afghanistan 2022 conference, to support humanitarian responses, and sending and facilitating the arrival of more than 715 tons of humanitarian aid.

HE Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah reiterated Qatar’s keenness to continue working with all international partners in Afghanistan, and welcomed the visit of the Special Rapporteur to Doha and meeting with a number of Qatari officials to discuss ways of joint cooperation to promote human rights in Afghanistan, preserve the gains achieved, protect civilians and comply with International human rights law and international humanitarian law.
