Qatar Praises New Deal Between Iran, IAEA

Vienna, March 08 (QNA) – The State of Qatar praised the agreement reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling for the continuation of dialogue between the two sides to resolve outstanding issues in the Iranian nuclear program.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, before the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, being held in Vienna.

His Excellency said that the recent successful visit of HE Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi to Tehran, and the joint statement issued by IAEA and Iran, laid the foundation for subsequent steps to facilitate broader cooperation between the two sides in order to expedite resolving the remaining guarantees issues.

He praised the significant role played by the IAEA in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the tireless efforts of its Director General, especially his recent visit to Tehran, and the response of officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard.

His Excellency stressed that joint work, the spirit of cooperation and positive interaction between the Agency and Iran, through full respect for the Agency’s mandate and the rights and obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is the irreplaceable way to resolve all outstanding issues and prepare the technical requirements for resuming work on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

His Excellency voiced the State of Qatar’s hope that the positive momentum generated by the recent visit of the IAEA Director-General to Tehran would be an incentive for expediting technical meetings to implement what was agreed upon and allow resolving outstanding issues, enhancing transparency and rebuilding trust as soon as possible.

The State of Qatar strongly encourages all countries to support this new direction in the relationship between the IAEA and Iran in order to reach a permanent solution to all the problems that hindered the implementation of previous agreements and to create an appropriate technical and political ground for resuming the comprehensive action plan,He said pointing that it is considered to be an important international mechanism in the non-proliferation regime.

HE the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that, over the past years, the State of Qatar has made every possible effort to bridge the views of the parties to the JCPOA, and will continue this endeavor in the future, relying on the positive results of the recent visit of the IAEA Director-General to Iran.
