Qatar Participates in Tashkent International Conference on Security, Economic Development of Afghanistan

The State of Qatar participated in the international conference “Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development”, which was held in the Uzbek capital Tashkent.

The delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the conference was headed by HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani.

HE Al Qahtani, in a speech during the conference, drew the attention to the role of the State of Qatar ss an active party in regional and international efforts, affirming the continuation of these efforts to achieve security, stability, peace and development in Afghanistan, in cooperation with its regional and international partners.

The Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm position in support of the Afghan people, ensuring their basic rights, and preserving their dignity and security, especially the right of women to work and the right of girls to education.

He also pointed to the importance of avoiding competition or conflict over Afghanistan, avoiding past mistakes, cooperating for Afghanistan, and finding creative and practical ways to deal with the Afghan caretaker government, in a way that achieves the aspirations of the Afghan people.

In this regard, he renewed Qatar’s call for the Afghan caretaker government to deal with the aspirations of the international community and the obligations of the Afghan state in accordance with the provisions of international law.

He said that the threat of ISIS Khorasan Province still exists in Afghanistan, calling on the Afghan caretaker government to continue to abide by its commitments, especially in accordance with the Doha Agreement, to combat terrorism, and not to allow individuals or terrorist organizations to use Afghan territory against the security and safety of other countries, and to consider the possibility of cooperating with other countries to fight terrorism.

The Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of activating the Doha Agreement and inviting the parties to the agreement to hold further consultations to implement the Agreement.

He reiterated Qatar’s readiness to facilitate such consultations, as well as the importance of developing a road map to be agreed upon with the Afghan caretaker government and its implementation within an appropriate time frame to address political, economic, security and humanitarian issues.
