Qatar Charity launches ‘Together Against Hunger’ drive

Qatar Charity (QC), in conjunction with World Food Day, launched the ‘Together against Hunger’ campaign, urging people to provide the necessary food for those threatened by famine in many countries of the world.

The drive aims to deliver food aid to poor families, who are under the threat of famine, and are struggling to survive, and their situation has further worsened after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports, 11 people die of hunger every minute around the globe, while nearly 41 million people, the majority of them women and children,  are at imminent risk of famine, due to crises and natural disasters, in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic that made the situation further worse, disrupting food supply networks and bringing producers out of business.

The drive seeks to reach out to Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Senegal, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as reports indicate that Afghanistan is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe that may last for years to come, threatening half this poor country’s population, while India was ranked among the countries where people are suffering from undernutrition. In India, the number of undernourished people is estimated at 189 million, and more than half of Indian women are anaemic,

In Kenya, food insecurity threatens the lives of millions who are at risk of hunger, malnutrition and poverty, while nearly half Senegal’s population lives below the poverty line, and 18 percent of Senegalese children are with dwarfism caused by malnutrition.

The situation is the same in Bosnia and Herzegovina where dwarfism is common among children under the age of five due to malnutrition. In Albania, 15 percent of people live below the poverty line, struggling to meet the daily food need of children.

Qatar Charity calls on benefactors in Qatar to support the ‘Together Against Hunger’ campaign to save the life of the poor and needy in these countries suffering from hunger and malnutrition.

People can donate to the campaign through Qatar Charity’s website, app, branches, and collection points, in addition to dialing 44667711   for donating.
