Qatar affirmed its support, for all efforts, aiming at achieving a comprehensive cease-fire in Syria, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need, thus contributing to a political solution to the crisis, on the basis of the Geneva Declaration and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, in particular resolution 2254, and ensures the realisation of the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.

This came in the speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, under item 4 of the current session of the Human Rights Council.

Al Mansouri pointed out that the Syrian justice system, as well as, the international community, failed to achieve justice and fairness for the victims and to hold accountable those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against the Syrian people, stressing that, the continued impunity of the Syrian government, encourages it to further commit further violations, as well as, it is negatively affecting the political negotiation process and reaching a permanent solution to end the conflict in the country.

He called for greater support for the impartial and independent international mechanism, to assist in the investigation of crimes in Syria, in order to enable it to carry out its mandate.
