Preparations for 4th Global Reciter competition discussed

The supervisory committee of the web-based Bahrain International Quran Recitation Competition, “Global Reciter”, held a coordination meeting in which it discussed preparations for the launch of the fourth edition of the competition.

The new edition follows the outstanding success of the previous versions in which nearly 10,000 contestants and 65 jury members from all over the world participated.

The global reciter competition has put Bahrain on the world map for encouraging the youth to read and recite the holy Quran.

Chaired by the Undersecretary of the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, Judge Isa Sami Al-Mannai, the coordination meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Shomali, CEO of the Information and e-Government Authority (iGA), Mohammed Ali Al-Qaed, Assistant Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Qattan, Holy Quran Affairs Director, Abdulla Al-Omari, Head of Quran Competitions, Dr. Yasser Siyadi, and senior Quran competitions and activities specialist, Noora Ebrahim.

The committee reviewed the Holy Quran Affairs Directorate’s preparations to launch the competition and the competition’s regulations, and approved the event’s standards, schedule and the number of contestants in each stage, in addition to the members of the jury, as well as the technical and organisational committees and their remuneration.

The panel was also briefed about the sponsors of the fourth edition, including the Information Affairs Ministry, iGA, Kuwait Finance House, STC, Al-Salam Bank, Diyar Al-Muharraq, Ithmar Bank, Al-Watan newspaper and Al-Ayam newspaper.

The committee also reviewed the system designed by iGA for Quran competitions, and the latest developments regarding the design of the competition’s website.

It also approved the participation of female contestants in additional categories, namely the “Al-Qari Al-Murattel” for recitation and “Al-Qari Al-Sagheer” for young reciters, out of keenness to ensure equal opportunities.

The fourth edition is expected to begin early 2020.
