Police kill terrorist in eastern Algeria

ALGIERS, March 24 (KUNA) – Algerian police killed a terrorist in the eastern Tizi Ouzou province, the communication department of the Provincial Directorate of Police announced in a statement Thursday.
“As part of the fight against terrorism, a terrorist was eliminated during the night of Wednesday to Thursday (23 to 24 March) in Maatkas, after a manhunt,” said the statement aired by the Algerian news agency (APS). According to local security sources, the terrorist, who was wearing an explosive belt, was trying to escape a combing operation by units of the People’s National Army in the region.
“Cornered by the Army units, he headed to the police directorate of the sub-prefecture of Maatkas, probably with the aim to blow himself up,” said the source.
The provincial directorate added that a quantity of ammunition has been recovered during this operation. (end) ft.ibi
