Dr. Sadriya Al Kohji, Assistant Medical Director for Children and Adolescent Services at Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and National Lead for Healthy Children and Adolescents Strategies, said: “PHCC is providing many services for children with Autism, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) early screening for children at the ages of 18 and 30 months. PHCC is also getting ready for providing a package of future services for this category in the phase of planning and preparation to offer further community services based on scientific evidence. These services include educational messages, within the framework of raising the level of the community’s cultural and health awareness.”
Al Kohji pointed out that medical and administrative cadres have been trained to raise awareness of Autism, via many workshops by local and international experts in various training sessions. She added that the extent of the training among workforces is currently expanded to include all staffs of PHCC.
She added: “The national virtual “Early Bird Program” has been launched and is run by PHCC, in collaboration with many government and private entities in the State of Qatar. It is a training program for parents whose children have been diagnosed with ASD and it is available in Arabic and English languages. Moreover, this program is working on improving and developing the relationship between parents and children diagnosed with Autism, and facilitating the means of communication between them, particularly in the home environment. The program has started since 2018.”
