Penal & Correctional Institutions Department and Qatar Red Crescent Society sign cooperation agreement

The Penal & Correctional Institutions Department at the Ministry of Interior signed a cooperation agreement with the Qatar Red Crescent Society on the care and rehabilitation of the inmates of Penal & Correctional Institutions, on Monday, August 15, 2022.

Brigadier Muhammad Saud Al-Otaibi, Director of the Penal & Correctional Institutions Department, and H.E Ambassador Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Qatar Red Crescent signed the agreement. A digital manufacturing laboratory with the support of the Qatar Red Crescent was opened, and the Qatar Scientific Club was launched at the event.

The agreement aims to train and qualify inmates and exchange experiences in the humanitarian, scientific and technical fields, in addition to holding and organizing workshops and cooperation in the fields of external activities and events.

Brigadier Muhammad Saud Al-Otaibi said that the Ministry of Interior and the Qatar Red Crescent, which led to the achievement of the targeted results during the previous partnership, presented great efforts.

A number of inmates received courses that had a positive impact on their behaviour and provided them with experience to qualify them to obtain suitable job opportunities after their release and to enable them to return to society as good individuals participating in development.

For his part, Ambassador Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi confirmed that male and female inmates benefited from skills development courses, health education and aftercare program in the field of vocational rehabilitation.

He emphasized the importance of encouraging inmates to start a new life full of hope, work and ambition, helping to provide a decent source of livelihood, and the keenness to constantly develop the project’s programs in line with the nature and requirements of the labour market.
