KUWAIT, June 8 (KUNA) — The National Assembly on Wednesday approved and referred to the government the proposed legislations and draft bills amending Law number 23/1968 on Police Force System.
Law 23/1968 was issued on 21 May, and many of its provisions have been amended due to work conditions and requirements, said an explanatory note by the parliamentary committee on the interior and defense affairs.
It added that the massive developments of the police system over the past few years have revealed some defaults in the law, which made it necessary to amend a number of provisions to cope with these changes.
According to the amendments, a police force member who fails to complete the year-long probation successfully must be laid off during that period, or maximum a month after it ends.
Item two of article 37 defines the conditions for a volunteer willing to join the police force, mainly one has to be no more than 30 years old.
Meanwhile, the Assembly responded to a request by the committee rapporteur to withdraw a proposed bill amending Law 26/1962 on organization of prisons, for further studies. (end) sss.msa
