OIC Strongly Condemns Unrelenting Bombing of Civilians in Aleppo

Jeddah, – The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani has vigorously condemned the unrelenting bombing of civilians in Aleppo, Syria. He just as strongly denounced the shelling of humanitarian aid convoys, causing the death and injury of hundreds of civilians, and exacerbating the desperate humanitarian situation and widespread havoc in the city.

According to OIC website, Madani called on the international community, particularly the parties that pledged to impose an end to the bloodshed in Syria and consolidate the humanitarian cease-fire, to promptly step in to put an end to the ongoing killings and massacres in residential areas. He pointed out that the relentless pounding, slaughter, and destruction of humanitarian aid convoys amount to war crimes for which the Syrian regime should be held accountable. The parties supporting the Syrian regime take responsibility for the continuation of these serious violations, he underscored.

On a similar note, the OIC Secretary General discussed the deteriorating situation in Aleppo with UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, as part of their bilateral meeting held in Ban’s office at the UN Headquarters on the sidelines of Madani’s participation in the ongoing 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Madani stressed the need for the UN to move by virtue of its mandate and obligations as enshrined in the UN Charter in a bid to stem the flagrant violations of human rights in Aleppo.
