Nine women reach second round in parliamentary election

Manama, Out of total 74 female candidates in the parliamentary elections, one woman, Zainab AbdulAmir, carried her constituency and nine have made it to the second round.

The candidates who managed to go to the second round are Zainab Mohsen Al Hayki, Jalila Alawi Sayed, Kaltham Al Haiki, Eman Hasan Showaiter, Maryam Hasan Al Saegh, Basma Abdulkarim Mubarak, Hanan Mohamed Ali, Maryam Saleh Al Dhain, and Lulwa Ali Al Romaihi

The number means that 64 candidates are out of the parliamentary race from the first round.

Since the beginning of the electoral process in 2002 in Bahrain, several women have succeeded in winning parliamentary seats.

They include Lateefa Al Gaood, Sawsan Taqawi, outgoing Speaker Fawzia Zainal, Sawsan Kamal, Samia Al Jowder, Masouma Abdulrahim, Kultham Al Haiki, Zainab AbdulAmir, and Fatima Al Qatari.
