Nicaragua President Supports Qatar’s UNESCO Candidate

Managua, President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega met Wednesday with HE Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the director general post at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

During the meeting, Qatar’s candidate conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the president of Nicaragua and his best wishes of more progress and prosperity to the Nicaraguan people.

For his part, the Nicaraguan president entrusted Dr. Al Kuwari to convey his greetings to HH the Emir, wishing him continued good health and happiness and the people of Qatar further development and prosperity.

After Dr. Al Kuwari presented his vision for the organization, Nicaraguan president expressed his appreciation for the State of Qatar, stressing his country’s support for the Qatari candidate.

He highlighted Qatar’s role with UNESCO and its keenness on education, culture and sciences, as well as its eagerness to serve the global community in vital sectors.

In addition, the president praised the candidate’s qualification to handle the post, noting that his visit to the Caribbean and Latin American countries shows his appreciation to the region.

Dr. Al Kuwari, in turn, thanked the president for the support and trust.

Mohammed El Ashtar, Nicaragua’s minister for the Middle East, Africa and Arab affairs, attended the meeting along with Laureano Ortega, the Nicaraguan government’s investment advisor.

HE Dr. Al Kuwari had met El Ashtar at an earlier stage and discussed bilateral relations between both countries as well as the Qatari candidate’s vision for UNESCO, with the minister wishing the Qatari candidate success in his mission and hoping to cooperate with him in the future.
