New York authorities bust three suspects with cache of weapons

NEW YORK, June 21 (KUNA) — Three heavily armed people were arrested today at the entrance of Holland tunnel after being stopped for driving with a cracked windscreen, and found out the car contained cache of weapons.
According to local news (NBC NEWS), the three individuals were held at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel, which runs under the Hudson River connecting New Jersey with Manhattan.
When the vehicle was searched, the police found a cache of weapons including long-range weapons, handguns, a camouflage helmet, ballistic vests, night goggles, knives, as well as drugs.
A law enforcement official said that one of the suspects allegedly told authorities the trio were on their way to Queens to save “a friend who is on heroin and being held against her will.” The two men, and women are so-called “gun enthusiasts” and have no nexus to terror, NBC news reported.
Both the Port Authority and Joint Terrorism Task Force are investigating the incident.
New York City has tightened its security measures lately as a precaution after the attacks that occurred in Orlando. (end)
