KUWAIT, June 18 (KUNA) — In an annual Ramadan sporting event, a team of MPs, representing the National Assembly, won an indoor soccer match on Saturday over a team of officials, representing the Kuwaiti government.
This is the 37th time the two teams meet in a spirit of comradery and good fellowship in the Roudhan Indoor Soccer Competition which is held every year during the month of Ramadan.
The lawmakers’ team was led by National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim and the government’s team was led by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The match was played under the aegis of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
The first half of the match ended with the lawmakers scoring two goals to nil from the government side, the latter trying its best to equalize the score in the second half to no avail. In fact the lawmakers scored one more goal in the second half, giving tremendous impetus to the government team to do their utmost to score which they eventually did. They scored twice, ending the match with a win for the lawmakers with a final score of 3 to 2.
Both lawmakers and government officials extoled the holding of this annual sport event, regarding it an apt venue for competition away from the halls of parliament and government decision making environments. (end) fsh.ajs
