Morocco’s aviation sees 82% increase in commercial air traffic in 2022

The National Airports Office (ONDA), reported that the Kingdom’s airports recorded commercial air traffic of 20,592,350 passengers in 2022, up 82% compared to 2019.

A press release from the Office specifies that during the year 2022, the airports of the Kingdom also recorded a total of 174,820 airport movements, a recovery rate of 83% compared to the year 2019.

In December, Morocco’s airports welcomed 2,118,644 passengers through 17,072 airport movements, recording recovery rates, respectively, of 104% and 94% compared to December 2019.

With 7,637,643 passengers, Mohammed V airport recorded a recovery rate of 74% in 2022 compared to 2019, through 67,094 airport movements, a recovery rate of 73% compared to 2019, notes the ONDA.

The Office noted that several airports have reached, or even exceeded, the volume of air passenger traffic for the year 2019, in particular the airports of Tetouan (470%), Oujda (122%) , Nador (108%) and Tangier (106%).

With 2,155,942 passengers welcomed in 2022, domestic air traffic recorded a recovery rate of 72% compared to 2019.

International traffic, meanwhile, recorded a recovery rate of 84% compared to 2019, welcoming 18,436,408 passengers. This traffic represents 90% of global air traffic.

The markets of the Middle and Far East, North America and Europe exceeded, during the month of December 2022, the air traffic of the same period of 2019, with respective recovery rates of 126%, 114 % and 110%.

Air freight recorded during the past year 69,751 tons at Moroccan airports, against 96,121 tons in 2019, representing a recovery rate of 73%.
