WAM ABU DHABI, 19th January, 2014 (WAM)–His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, today received Saudi Foreign Minister HRH Prince Saud Al Faisal, who arrived in the UAE on a short visit.

During the meeting attended by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohamed and Prince Saud, discussed the regional issues and a number of issues of mutual interest in the light of distinguished historic relations and continuous coordination between the two countries.

The Saudi and the UAE Foreign Ministers said in a statement that “In line with the firm position of the two sisterly states on supporting the rights of Syrian people to defend themselves from the crimes of the Syrian regime, we welcome the decision of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces to participate at the Geneva 2 Conference.” They added that “The aim of the conference is to put an end to the suffering of Syrian people through effecting a genuine political transition in which al-Assad regime would have no role in implementation of the Geneva 1 Declaration, and the call of UN Secretary General in which he reiterated the position of the countries backing the Syrian people as outlined by the London Declaration 2013 and Paris Declaration in 2014.” The Saudi Foreign Minister left today for Saudi Arabia. He was seen off by Sheikh Abdullah and a number of senior officials.
