Mohamed bin Zayed receives IJF President

WAM Abu Dhabi, 26th Nov. 2013 (WAM) — His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received at Al Bahr Palace Mr. Marius L. Vizer President of the International Judo Federation (IJF), in the presence of Mohamed bin Tha’loob Al Derai, President of UAE Wrestling, Judo and Kick Boxing Federation, and chairman of organising committee of the Judo Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi 2013.

Sheikh Mohamed was informed by Mr. Vizer about the IJF’s events and activities as well as its future programmes and plans and the UAE’s effective contribution to serve the game. They also reviewed the evolution and progress of the judo in the UAE and the advanced level its reached in the Arab World and overseas, prompting the IJF to elevate the Grand Judo Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi, into the world judo grand Slam championship, the second world event the IJF organised after the World Judo Cup, which is staged every year in major capital like Paris, Tokyo,Rio de Janeiro and Moscow. The UAE capital has joined these international host cities of World judo grand Slam championships.

Mr. Marius L. Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation (IJF), expressed his pleasure to be in the UAE to see for himself the progress the UAE has made in the sports in general and the judo sports in particular in terms of practice and organisation of world championship, noting that the UAE has proven year after year its professional ability to stage sports events, citing the 5th IJF Veterans World Judo Championships, which concluded in Abu Dhabi yesterday with participation of 1200 athletes from 45 countries. The UAE won the first place in the Arab region and 4th globally, beating veteran teams thanks to the government care and support for the sports.
