MINISTRY OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH QATAR UNIVERSITY

To bolster cooperation in scientific, administrative, technical, and research fields

The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar University (QU) on Wednesday, 8 January. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hassan Rashid Al-Derham, President of Qatar University, and by several representatives from both institutions. The MoU seeks to strengthen cooperation in the areas of research, mutual exchange of expertise, and community development. It also aims to conduct research and studies to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of policies and programs that contribute to the development of families in Qatar.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Ghanem Mubarak Al-Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, and Prof. Mariam Ali Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University.

The MoU provides a framework for collaboration in the fields of research, training, and community service. It will also support the exchange of knowledge and expertise, as well as provide opportunities for students and faculty to participate in projects and programs related to social development and family welfare. It will allow Qatar University to provide technical and academic support to the Ministry of Social Development and Family to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in Qatar. The agreement seeks to build cooperation with experts at Qatar University in conducting Sharia, legal, social, economic, and psychological research, and benefit from research centers at Qatar University in conducting statistical studies.

Mr. Ghanem Al-Kuwari indicated that the Ministry is keen to prepare and implement national strategies, plans, and policies related to the care of the family and seeks to provide a decent life for Qatari families by raising the efficiency of social workers.

Mr. Ghanem Al-Kuwari said: “The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Social Development and Family and Qatar University is an affirmation of the importance of institutionalizing cooperation and benefiting from the available capabilities to serve the two institutions. The MoU aims to act as a bridge to exchange knowledge and expertise to increase the effectiveness of both parties, in addition to developing, organizing, managing, and implementing programs and training courses on specializations related to social development”.

“The university represents the distinguished national academic organization among the universities in the region. It has long-standing expertise in all specialties, and we are keen to work in the field of joint development and building the skills, knowledge, and capabilities required for social workers.” He added.

In her statement, Prof. Mariam Al-Maadeed said: “We are pleased today to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, as we believe in the importance of cooperation between state institutions in the fields of knowledge and research, and as a commitment from Qatar University to community and family development.” She added, “The memorandum aims to enhance cooperation between the two parties in the fields of research and studies, the exchange of expertise, and the organization of academic and social events, including research, training, scientific publishing, and everything that serves the common goals of the two parties to support the family and society.”

Prof. Al-Maadeed added: “We hope this memorandum will enhance Qatar University’s cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development and Family to develop and strengthen the national development strategy in the social, health, educational, cultural, and environmental fields among others.”

The agreement will further strengthen the relationship between Qatar University and the Ministry of Social Development and Family Affairs and will help the two institutions work together more effectively to support Qatar’s development. The MoU is part of Qatar University’s ongoing commitment to foster collaboration in research, training, and community development.
