Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, met with Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the WHO headquarters in Geneva.

During the meeting, Her Excellency conveyed the State of Qatar’s congratulations to Dr. Ghebreyesus on his re-election to the second term as Director-General of WHO, expressing its wishes for him to continue his great efforts for the benefit of WHO.

Her Excellency explained that his re-election as Director-General of WHO came due to the confidence and support of Member States for his leadership throughout the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to his efforts to improve health systems and implement the priorities of the WHO at the global level. She also expressed her congratulations to him for the success of the seventy-fifth session of the World Health Assembly. The international conference was held from 22 to 28 May with the participation of the delegation of the State of Qatar.

Her Excellency and Dr. Ghebreyesus discussed ongoing collaborations between Qatar and WHO in various fields of health as well as the partnership Healthy FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: Creating Legacy For Sport and Health, which along with FIFA, aims to ensure a healthy and safe World Cup in Qatar and to build a model for hosting future healthy and safe mega sporting events.
