Local disabled tri-sport event kicks off

KUWAIT, Jan 31 (KUNA) — The local disabled sports championship kicked off at Kuwait Disabled Sports Club on Sunday with some 70 athletes competing in swimming, table tennis and wheelchair basketball over three days.
The event which is pitting athletes of all ages, on its first day, witnessed the emergence of several talents particularly in the youth set-up, according to club President Nasser Al-Ajmi.
The competition marks the beginning of a series of local events in individual and group sports the club has planned for the future, he revealed, which aim to improve local standards ahead of upcoming international participations.
The official expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Public Authority for Sports, headed by Director General Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, which has in turn resulted in crowning a number of Kuwaiti athletes on the podiums of international Paralympic venues.
The event was in turn commended by table tennis player Hamed Wabdan, who mentioned its role in maintaining fitness levels of Kuwaiti athletes ahead of future overseas participations. (end) fsa.sd
