DUBAI, June 20 (KUNA) — Watani Al-Emarat (the National-UAE) Foundation awarded the Kuwaiti scholar Abdullah Mutair Al-Shereika the mark of science award in recognition of his contribution to the promotion of the humanitarian values.
The award ceremony of the fourth session of Watani Al-Emarat Award for Humanitarian Work was held at Hotel InterContinental Dubai Festival City on Monday evening under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad, the Crown Prince of Dubai, who was represented by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktoum.
The ceremony was themed “This is What Sheikh Zayed Loves” in tribute to the late president of the UAE Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan.
Speaking to KUNA after his honoring, Al-Shereika dedicated the award to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah – the Humanitarian Leader and advocate of moderation.
He attributed the achievements made in the humanitarian action and the combat against extremism on the local, regional and international levels to the support of His Highness the Amir.
“Without the support of His Highness, we wouldn’t be able to promote the culture of moderation based on the true values of Islam and combat radicalization of Muslim youth,” he said.
Al-Shereika, the first non-UAE winner of the award, thanked the UAE leaders, government and people as well as the Foundation for honoring him.
On his part, the Director-General of Watani Al-Emarat Foundation Dherar Al-Falasi said the honoring of the Kuwaiti scholar was part of the Foundation’s initiatives to promote the moderate ideology of Islam and shed light on the personalities who made praiseworthy efforts in humanitarian work.
“In line with its initiatives to build an appreciation system for personalities in the UAE community, Watani Program has launched the Watani Al-Emarat Humanitarian Work Award to honor Emiratis who reflect Emirati national identity and values,” he added.
The event saw the honoring of Chairperson of the Dubai Woman Establishment (DWE) Sheikha Manal bint Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktoum as the golden personality of the year, and the offering of the mark of thinking award to Dr. Shama bint Mohammad Al Nahyan, the chairperson of the foundations of Sheikh Mohammad bin Khaled Al Nahyan.
