KUWAIT, Jan 31 (KUNA) — Kuwait Dive Team (KDT), affiliated with the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF), lifted 25 tons of waste that are harmful to the marine environment from Oshairej coast, in cooperation with Kuwait Municipality, Environment Public Authority (EPA), and encroachments removal commission affiliated to the cabinet.
The team’s head Waleed Al-Fadel said in remarks to KUNA on Sunday that the team carried out a campaign to lift a large quantity of waste from Oshairej coast including plastic materials, fishing nets, drowned boasts, ropes, buoys, and tires.
This came as part of “Clean Kuwait Shores” initiative, with the support and sponsorship of Kuwait Ministry for Youth Affairs which will last for two consecutive days, he said.
The team sought help of Kuwait Municipality for this mission, he added.
Most of the lifted waste drowned as a result of the strong northern winds, coming from commercial ships in the Gulf region heading to Doha Port, besides industrial workshops in Doha area, he said, He expressed hope that this violation against the marine environment would end through imposing stricter regulations against violators.(end).
