Kuwait to host new round of Yemeni peace talks on April 18 – UN Envoy

NEW YORK, March 23 (KUNA) — UN Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed announced Wednesday that Kuwait will host the new round of Yemeni peace talks on April 18th.
Talking to the press at UN Headquarters, the UN envoy expressed the organization’ gratitude to Kuwait for hosting the upcoming round of peace talks for Yemen.
He also confirmed that the parties to the conflict have agreed to a nation-wide cessation of hostilities beginning at midnight of April 10.
The UN official said that Security Council resolution 2216 will be one of the main pillars of the peace talks, as it will be focusing on the withdrawal of armed groups, and giving up weapons.
Ould Cheikh Ahmed had been in the Middle East over the past days holding discussions with parties in order to move forward with the solution. (end) mao.ibi
