Kremlin: Putin, Xi Discuss Beijing’s Peace Proposal to Solve Crisis in Ukraine

Moscow, March 21 (QNA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping discussed on Tuesday a Chinese proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Kremlin said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was cited by Tass news agency as telling reporters it is clear the two leaders discussed the matter because they said they would.

Peskov did not release any further details in this context, calling for reporters to await both leaders’ statements to the media following the talks.

The Chinese president is paying a state visit to Russia from March 20 to 22. On Monday, Xi held a meeting with Putin that lasted about 4 and a half hours, and the talks are expected to continue in the Kremlin. The two sides will hold a joint press conference after the end of the talks.

In February, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published a document outlining its position on the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

The document proposed 12 points, most notably the call for a cease-fire, respect for the legitimate security interests of all countries, the settlement of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, and the rejection of unilateral sanctions issued without a mandate from the UN Security Council.

The document identified the talks as the only way to solve the crisis in Ukraine, and called on all parties to support rapprochement between Moscow and Kiev, according to Tass.
