KRCS: GCC Red Crescent Societies' humanitarian support should be highlighted

RIYADH, June 2 (KUNA) — Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) stressed on Thursday the importance of spotlighting efforts exerted by GCC Red Crescent Societies and bodies in backing joint humanitarian projects and relief.
Media plays a major role in completing the function of GCC Red Crescent Societies and bodies which provide life-saving assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons, Khaled Al-Zaid, an official of KRCS, said in a statement to KUNA following the second meeting of the GCC Red Crescent Societies and humanitarian bodies.
Media has a key role in highlighting efforts of governmental and non-governmental organizations that have been providing relief and humanitarian services to vicitms of natural catastrophes and conflicts, he added.
The meeting discussed activating the resolution of the 12th meeting of the Committee of Presidents of Red Crescent Societies in GCC member states hosted by Riyadh last April.
Today’s meeting dealt with means of enhancing efforts of GCC Red Crescent Societies in humanitarian action through producing a booklet that sums up all humanitarian aid provided to people, he noted. He underlined the significance of media role in focusing on Gulf efforts aiming to invest and make use of capacities of youth in voluntary action as youth are the real wealth in GCC states.
He lauded GCC secretariat in shedding light on the role of GCC Red Crescent Societies and bodies, and supporting humanitarian relief projects. (end) yms.nsa.hm
