Justice Undersecretary Highlights Qatar’s Role in Support of Refugees

Doha, -. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Sultan bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, who is also Chairman of the National Committee of the International Humanitarian Law has reiterated Qatar’s the attention to the refugees issue as one of the outstanding challenges facing the world.

This came in a speech he delivered today at the opening of the training course organized by the National Committee on International Humanitarian Law, in cooperation with the Regional Representative of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), entitled “The protection of refugees at the time of humanitarian crises”, . He highlighted the contributions of the State Qatar in support of refugees.

He noted that although the State of Qatar is not a party to the Status of Refugees of 1951 United Nations Convention and its 1967 Protocol, but in accordance with the rules of the United Nations in this regard, Qatar is committed to basic protections that are part of the general standards of international law, He pointed out that the Gulf cooperation Council (GCC), also recommends supporting the Syrian refugees in the current crisis, taking into account the rights of refugees in crises as general.
