Japan Orders Defense Forces to Intercept N. Korea Missile

Tokyo, – Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani issued an order on Tuesday for the Self-Defense Forces to intercept a possible missile from North Korea, Japanese Jiji Press reported government sources as saying.

The order came amid signs that North Korea is preparing to launch a ballistic missile, the sources said.

The SDF will deploy Patriot Advanced Capability-3, or PAC-3, missile defense units at places such as the Defense Ministry’s headquarters in the Ichigaya district in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, according to the sources.

It will also deploy Aegis destroyers equipped with Standard Missile-3, or SM-3, missile interceptors in waters around Japan, they said. Nakatani last issued a missile interception order on May 30.
