Italy Committed to Strengthening Ties with Tunisia, Foreign Minister Alfano Says

Tunis, Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano said today that the current Italian administration is committed to pursuing new opportunities for strengthening ties with Tunisia.

The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs was speaking to the press following a meeting held with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui. He said that the meeting discussed ways to help Tunisia with its development efforts. They also discussed ways to limit illegal immigration to Italy and counter-terrorism. The meeting also discussed the preparations for the visit of Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi’s visit to Italy on February 8-9.

For his part the Tunisian Foreign Minister said that drafting a development plan against “regional imbalance,” Tap news agency reported today. He also said that the two sides discussed ways that could help the Tunisian job market as well as immigration and counter-terrorism efforts.
