Iraqi Foreign Minister Stresses Importance of Continued Provision of NATO Training Program to Iraqi Forces

Brussels, March 21 (QNA) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stressed the importance of NATO continuing to provide advisory and training programmes to Iraq’s security forces.

This came during the Iraqi Foreign Minister’s meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at his headquarters in the Belgian capital, Brussels.

They examined cooperation relationships and files of common interest, as well as training and capacity-building programmes provided in cooperation with the NATO Iraq mission.

Hussein stressed the importance of continuing to provide counseling and training programmes to Iraqi security forces and their various institutions, and the need to continue to consult with Iraqi stakeholders to develop common perspectives to identify priorities.

From his part, Stoltenberg expressed the Alliance’s interest in providing training programmes to upgrade the capabilities of the Iraqi security and military forces, in full consultation with the Government. (QNA)
