Iran, Armenia eye closer ties

TEHRAN, June 5 (KUNA) — Iranian President Hasan Rouhani on Sunday expressed desire to enhance the bilateral ties with Armenia in all fields after his country signed the landmark nuclear deal with the P5+1.
During his meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian, President Rouhani said Tehran is ready to provide Yerevan with the necessary technical and engineering assistance.
There are ample opportunities for promoting the economic, investment and commercial ties between the two countries after lifting the western sanctions on Iran pursuant to the nuclear deal, he affirmed.
The Iranian leader added that Armenia is an old friend of Iran and both countries share identical on several regional and international issues.
On his part, the Armenian minister conveyed a letter from President Serzh Sargsian to President Rouhani.
Nalbandian commended the growing cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, energy and transport.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), reached in July, 2015, created conducive ground for closer cooperation and more stability in the region and beyond, he added. Nalbandian arrived here earlier today on an official visit to Iran. (end)
