IPU : FNC is active partner

WAM Abu Dhabi, 13th Dec. 2013 (WAM) — Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has commended the Federal National Council (FNC) for its active engagement in the IPU’s events, meetings and conferences.

Mr. Anders B. Johnsson, IPU Secretary General, praised in a message to the FNC Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Mazrouie, the FNC’s role as an active partner in the IPU’s works from general assemblies to technical initiatives.

Mr. Johnsson said  the growing role of the UAE house in the IPU works is notable and commendable and underscores the FNC’s consciousness of the role the parliamentary institutions are playing.

The Geneva-based IPU also lauded activities being organised by the FNC and its cooperation with the IPU, particularly the latest initiative for hosting the parliamentary media forum.

In credit for the FNC, the IPU has selected the UAE house to review the Arabic version of its first Global Parliamentary Report the “Changing Nature of Parliamentary Representation.” The flagship joint IPU-UNDP report argues that parliaments must stay closely attuned to public needs and expectations of the institution and ensure sustained and strategic efforts are made to meet them if they are to help address the very low-levels of trust they currently hold.

The report, in which more than 125 parliaments and 660 members of parliament (MPs) participated, aims to help both legislative assemblies and politicians better understand and respond to the public pressures they are facing.
