INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION OF EMPLOYERS PRAISES LABOUR RIGHTS’ EFFORTS IN QATAR

DOHA, Qatar, Apr 28- International Organisation of Employers’ (IOE) secretary general, Brent Wilton, has praised Qatar’s tireless efforts in the area of labour rights, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Qatar has a story to tell about work in labour rights, particularly in providing good conditions for workers, he said, on the sidelines of his visit to the Barwa-Al Baraha city project here.

“The project is a source of pride, and more similar projects must be done, to allow many people to know about opportunities provided for workers by Qatar,” he said.

Wilson also expressed IOE’s readiness to interact closely with the Qatari side, to shed light on Qatar’s efforts in this area, in order to refute the concerns of many foreign parties.

Meanwhile, project manager, Eng. Abdullah Saleh Hajji. said, Barwa-Al Baraha city aims to be an integrated city that has all facilities needed by workers and visitors.

He said, the expatriate labour has become one of the components of Qatari society, in light of unprecedented prosperity, witnessed by its economy.

“No doubt it is steadily growing, in line with the urban growth and development of Qatar,” he added.

Measuring approximately 1.8 million square metres, the Barwa Al Baraha development is designed to serve as an integrated workers’ city, that will accommodate 53,000 workers and employees, making it the largest workers’ accommodation in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The project will be developed in two phases and among the facilities include a hotel, entertainment centre, health centre, mosque, Islamic centre and police station.
