Info. Min. congratulates 2 KJA members on winning IFJ posts

KUWAIT, June 10 (KUNA) — Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah congratulated the two members of Kuwait Journalist Association (KJA) Dahiran Aba-Al-Khail and Jassem Kamal on their election as Asia executive board member of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and observer for Asia respectively.
“This is a new achievement for the Kuwaiti journalism,” Sheikh Salman told KUNA Friday night, noting that Kuwait is the first GCC member that wins these two posts in the IFJ.
He attributed the win to the sincere efforts made by Aba-Al-Khail and Kamal in supporting the KJA to play its role as a civil society institution and cooperate with the Ministry of Information.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s support to the activities of the KJA on the local, regional and international scales.
Aba-Al-Khail won 181 votes out of 290 of the IFJ while Kamal was elected uncontested in the IFJ polls which took place in Angers, France, earlier today.
The Brussels-based IFJ represents more than 600,000 journalists and 179 press associations worldwide. (end)
