Independence Day celebrated in Pakistani embassies (Daily Messenger (Pakistan))

The 69th Independence Day was celebrated with national zeal and spirit at different Pakistani embassies abroad on Friday.

Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit raised the flag at an impressive ceremony held on the Chancery’s lush green lawns.

While speaking, he said Pakistan had always wanted to have a normal and cooperative relationship with India. To this end, it was necessary to settle all the outstanding issues, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, he said. Aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir could neither be ignored nor put on the back burner. No matter how much more time does their legitimate struggle take, Pakistan will never abandon Kashmiris and their cause. The High Commissioner added that it was also essential to create a congenial bilateral environment by eschewing stereotypes and self-serving propaganda.

Basit also dwelt on far-reaching changes taking place in Pakistan in all spheres. He said the resilient people of Pakistan had always come out of difficult challenges with a vengeance. Pakistan’s economy was now showing encouraging signs of recovery. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was testimony to Pakistan’s potential and unparallel opportunities the country offered for investment. The high commissioner said that Pakistan was destined to become a regional economic hub to the benefit of all the regional countries and beyond.

Meanwhile, the Independence Day was celebrated at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai, where large number of UAE-based Pakistanis attended the ceremony.

Ambassador of Pakistan Asif Durrani hoisted the national flag. In his address, Durrani, while felicitating the Pakistanis, recalled the great sacrifices rendered by the forefathers 69 years ago for a separate homeland. The ambassador urged the community to stand united against extremist elements. In this regard, he lauded the role and sacrifices being rendered by the armed forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan. He said that the whole nation was united against dark forces of extremism.

Referring to the role of Pakistani community in UAE, Ambassador Durrani appreciated their contribution in the development of the UAE. He particularly appreciated the UAE leadership’s special affiliation towards Pakistan and said that the leaders of the two countries were keen on further strengthening bilateral relations. Ambassador Durrani also lauded the role of the Pakistani community in strengthening the national economy and improving ties.

Another ceremony was held at Pakistan Consulate at Dubai. Consul General Javed Jalil Khattak hoisted the national flag while the national Anthem was played.

Extending warm felicitations, Khattak recounted the arduous struggle for achievement of independence under the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He paid homage to the Founding Father of the Nation, his co-workers and the freedom fighters whose enormous sacrifices made it possible to realize the dream of an independent state for the Muslims of the sub-continent.
